Who this clinic is for
This clinic is suitable for all levels, from newer combinations through to experienced riders or riders who have completed a horsemanship clinic and would like to further their skills.
It is particularly valuable for riders who want to:
Commit to two full days of learning and reflection
Explore personal goals
Improve partnership, communication, and confidence with their horse
Make meaningful changes to training habits, mindset, and connection
The clinic is flexible and tailored - exercises can be done in‑hand, under saddle, or a combination of both.
I’m a big believer in the power of good horsemanship to support every rider — whether you love heading out on the trail or have your sights set on performance and competition.
What you’ll gain from this clinic
Te Rangi Horses clinics are about more than learning a set of exercises - it’s about developing the skills, awareness, and confidence that make every interaction with your horse calmer, clearer, and more enjoyable. Over two focused days, you’ll gain practical tools you can apply immediately at home, alongside a deeper understanding of how your horse learns, responds, and communicates. Whether you ride for pleasure or performance, the aim is the same: a willing, confident horse and a rider who knows how to support them. You’ll leave with improved communication on the ground and under saddle, and a clearer sense of feel and timing. The training methods taught help strengthen your relationship with your horse, benefiting all interactions-from general handling and loading to riding.
Why this clinic is different
This is not a discipline-specific clinic, and it’s not about chasing a quick result. The focus is on horsemanship that supports the whole horse - physically, mentally, and emotionally. Exercises are shaped to suit each horse and rider combination, whether you’re working in-hand, or under saddle. As a qualified teacher, I place strong emphasis on how people learn, not just what they do. You’ll be encouraged to reflect, ask questions, observe others, and take the time you need to understand each concept. These are tools you can use to create lasting change rather than temporary improvement - the kind of progress that continues long after the clinic ends.
Groundwork with purpose -
Groundwork is used thoughtfully throughout the clinic, not as an end in itself, but as a powerful way to improve connection, clarity, and confidence. With my own eventing horses, I use groundwork to build suppleness and topline, improve responsiveness to a light feel, add variety to training, and encourage curiosity and playfulness. You’ll learn how to use similar principles in a way that support your own goals, whatever discipline you ride in. Groundwork skills are then carried through into ridden work where appropriate, helping riders feel how improved communication on the ground translates directly into better balance, softness, and confidence under saddle.
What your investment gives you -
Your clinic fee includes two full days of structured learning, individualised coaching within a small group (maximum of 8 riders), and a supportive environment where progress is measured by understanding and confidence, not speed or comparison. You’ll receive clear guidance, honest feedback, and practical strategies tailored to you and your horse. You’ll also leave with a simple, personalised plan for continuing your progress at home - and the option of follow-up video feedback or check-in to help keep you moving forward after the clinic.
I regularly use groundwork with my Eventing horses to:
Strengthen connection through clear, consistent communication
Improve suppleness and topline for better performance
Add variety to their daily routine, keeping training interesting
Encourage curiosity and playfulness with fun liberty exercises
Make everyday handling calm and enjoyable by teaching them to respond to a gentle feel
